Like any mountain area Verbier is not immue to avalanches. To help people better understand where the high risk areas are we are in the process of collecting photographs of slides in the area.  Help us map these dangers by sending your avalanche photos, with a short description of where you were when the photograph was taken to : jamie@greenski.org.

2010 started a s bad year for avalanches with several deaths December/January in the region.  A major slide (50m wide, 300m long and 1.7m deep) on Backside swept a guide away on the the 26th December.  Luck and technology (a Snowpulse Airbag) saved the individual.  Since them conditions have generally stabilized but fresh dumps always increase the avalanche risk.
